Titolo: Macroeconomics of Climate Adaptation
Abstract:
Acknowledging the need to promote a greater engagement of post-Keynesians in environmental sustainability-related issues, this chapter proposes four delimiting principles for a post-Keynesian environmental macroeconomics: the principle of environmentally extended effective demand; the principle of environmental non-neutrality; the principle of non-convergence towards sustainability; the principle of constrained growth. The chapter considers that it is crucial for post-Keynesians to be capable of proposing a positive agenda concerning environmental issues, especially the climate crisis. It is argued that the central aspect of this agenda is the understanding that macroeconomic policies have real effects on production levels and agents’ wealth accumulation
strategies and, therefore, are not neutral to the environment. The talk ends with applications of these principles to environmental policy issues in Brazil.
