Bolstering resilience in a polycrisis scenario: a cross-country analysis on the role of information technology

Abstract:

The year 2022 marked the epoch of polycrisis, where multiple crises interacted, intensifying risk exposure for countries worldwide. This study investigates the relationship between information technology development, e-participation adoption, and resilience in the face of contemporary challenges. Analyzing a sample of 182 countries, the findings show a positive association between IT development and resilience, as well as e-participation adoption and resilience, particularly for medium and high GDP nations. For countries with low GDP per capita, public expenditure plays a more critical role in shaping resilience. The study provides valuable insights for policymakers and academics analyzing resilience in complex contexts
