Robot, Employment and Exports: unravelling the relationship

Abstract:

Industrial robot adoption is transforming industries worldwide. This paper focuses on Europe, exploring how robot adoption influences employment and workers embodied in exports at the sectoral level. We introduce a novel indicator that assesses robot penetration in five major European economies to study the indirect impacts of robotization on other European countries’ employment outcomes. Additionally, we analyze how robot investments within specific country-sectors directly affect labour markets. Our study offers insights into the broader effects of robot adoption on European nations’ employment and trade dynamics.
