Title: Per Capita GDP Trends, Divergence, and Cycles in Latin American Economic History

Abstract:

Latin America has shown a long-run growth rate similar to the world average, which implies a divergence with respect to the leading countries. Latin American growth rates have shown very high volatility, and in many countries a Kuznets-like cycle is noticeable.

The presentation will discuss different approaches to the long-run growth trends and their links to cycles and volatility.
